Signup from your phone

Geochat via SMS works with several phone numbers. Check this list and find the number that corresponds to your country and mobile company. If you can't find your mobile company you can send ”.ping” to the numbers of other companies in your country and check which number answers back with a message. That number works for your company.

To start using geochat from your mobile phone:

1) Add the corresponding number you found in the previous step to your mobile phone address book.

2) If you already know the name of a group you want to join, send a message with your display name and the group name, separated by “join”. Example: “paul zula join foi”. This message will allow you to sign up (register your user) in Geochat and join a group at the same time.

3) You will receive a message letting you know that you have successfully created an account and joined a group. Geochat will also send you a message with a password that you can use to log in at the website, please write it down somewhere.

4)If you don't know which group you want to join or you want to create your own group, register via SMS by sending a message with the word “name” and your name to the Geochat number. Example: “name John Doe”.

5) You will receive a message letting you know that you have successfully created an account. Geochat will also send you a message with a password that you can use to log in at the website, please write it down somewhere.

6) You can now send “at TOWN NAME” to tell Geochat where you are. You need to replace “TOWN NAME” with the name of the place you are. Example: “at phnom penh”. To learn more about reporting your location click here

7) You can now change your password, change your display name, join a group or create a group
